Semosupporter,

I can see both points to this story, one side, is that on-line gambling is a money maker and many feel it is unjust to allow some forms of gambling on-line, but then deny others.

Personally, I feel that gambling becomes a disorder that many people cannot control. Gambling becomes a way of life and this is one of the reasons on-line gambling is the money maker mentioned above.

People have no self control and personally I think they should not have allowed state lotteries and horse racing to be considered exempt. Gambling is gambling.

Semosupporter, I do not disagree with the points you are making. They are very valid.

Part of the issue could be that of money coming in and out of bank accounts. How will our Government know whether it is gambling money or money used to aid in Terrorist acts upon the U.S.? There's no real way to monitor this and then you would get into the entire profiling and then Liberals would be up in arms.

From the research that I've conducted, gambling affects more people than the likes of cigarettes and drinking, however, you must remember that there are regulations on the two mentioned above.

Regardless, this is an interesting discussion that you have brought up...thank you for the insight and I hope you and others can voice your opinion on this topic some more.

Hope to have you as a patron of this website Semosupporter.

You cannot regulate everything--people should be allowed to spend their money as they choose, regardless of how ignorant & irresposible it is. People blow their rent money on stupid things all the time, but what business is it of the government? The libertarian party is starting to look better & better...

Angel,

People do blow their rent money on stupid things, however, it should concern us and the Government in the fact that what happens when these people have no money? When they lose their house, their job, etc.? We, the tax payers, become the one supporting them. My point is, the Government becomes an unnecessary crutch, steps in and helps these people with various programs such as unemployment, welfare stamps, etc. Some people see that the Government will be their bread winner and have no need or desire to stop being lazy and start working.

Just a thought here (I want everyone's opinion on this), what if Government regulation on this will help people not normally on programs, stay off of Government programs in the future? Just a thought, I want to hear your opinions.

What people do not understand is the "We" do not own the Money, The Government Does. It's just on loan to us.

Cracking down on this has some interesting side effects.

1. Will control flow of money out of the U.S. to foreign Corporations/ other entities.
2. Will open the door for U.S. Companies to start lobbying for Internet Gambling.
3. Will cut down on Bankruptcy.

Historically? Go to the Ghetto, many are on Welfare and they're driving nicer rides than what their "income" should allow for. I think that statement is a little skewed, besides Government help does not just deal with welfare. Unfortunately my sister-in-law has credit cards and she's on WIC, is she an oddity?

My question was more along the lines of do you think Govt. Regulation would help those people (who had a gambling problem), not lose everything they own or do you think it does not matter? Does that make sense?

People do stupid, irresponisble things with their money all of the time. What business is it of the government? People blow their rent money on cable, cell phones, restaurants, beer, cigarettes, and tatoos. Gambling is no different. They cannot govern morality or intelligence. Yes, we should regulate things that are physically dangerous to others (drinking & driving, seat belts, abortion, etc), but we cannot regulate lifestyle. It's the same as the libs trying to force their homosexual, baby-killing, war-is-bad beliefs on us. You may feel gambling is wrong, but people still have free will.

I agree that it is sickening to see people receiving government assistance wasting money--after all it is my money. How about the government hire a bunch of accountants to manage the money of all people on welfare so they don't waste any. We cannot run other peoples lives. If they can't pay doctor bills, how do they afford beer, cigs, & tatoos? It's a choice--they can con us into paying for their runny nose visit to the ER so they don't have to drop $500. Then they get to spend their money on the fun stuff.

The libertarians are starting to sound better & better... Smaller government & stay out of my business is a pretty good philosophy.

Sorry for the redundancy in the last post...

But to answer your question, yes we do reward laziness and allow people to use the government as a crutch. This isn't limited to the young and lazy. I think Soc. Security & Medicare are bad ideas as well. It's called planning and saving for the future. I know my husband and I are.

I don't see gambling accounting for all that many people on welfare--it's ignorance and poor money management that got them where they are. If they don't waste it there, they'll waste it somewhere else.

Gambling is evil. some things you might say are bad even when it just hurts you. you probably feel that way about a lot of stuff.

Gambling is worse because it hurts other people too. it's immoral.

more to the point, do you really want minors getting into it?
