"In memory of the victims of September the 11th"...
President Bush signed a law Tuesday authorizing military trials of terrorism suspects and the legislation eliminates some of the rights defendants are normally guaranteed under U.S. law, and it authorizes continued interrogations of terror suspects. If you read the article written by an AP writer (Nedra Pickler), the word 'harsh' is used just before 'interrogations' and I have to disagree with her sentence usage.
The interrogations help keep us safe and if you remember back in June the Supreme Court ruled that trying detainees in military tribunals violated U.S. and International law, so President Bush was able to get Congress to change the law and insisted the law authorize CIA agents the ability to “use tough” methods when interrogating suspected terrorists. Once again, if you would like to get a Liberal point of view, actually read the article, in which Pickler places snide comments throughout the article in a bad attempt to discredit Bush.
To make things even more pathetic other than Liberal AP writers is the fact the ACLU has been quoted as saying it was “one of the worst civil liberties measures ever enacted in American history”, and in case you did not know this, the ACLU actually represents many of the terrorists with provided lawyers. Need I remind the group the ‘A’ stands for American, yet they represent the treatment of individuals who would rather see Americans dead. As Alanis Morisette has said, “Kind of Ironic, don’t ya think?”

Hiding behind the victims of 9/11 and claiming actions are "in memory of" is exploitation.
Find your own excuses...don't trash the memory of those that lost their lives by using them as political pawns.
That is bull shit and you know it. If we would have had a fucking man and not a fucking coward in office from 1992-2000, I doubt we would be seriously talking about this (9/11).
So you my friend, stop trashing the memory of those lost by trying to place blame on Bush when in all reality it was a lack of actions by that whore monger, Bill.
I didn't put the blame on either president, but thanks for your morally uplifting words of Christian love.
Nothing like "ethical Republicans..."
Who said anything about being a Christian? I never said anything about being a Republican. Stop assuming.
Wil, I don't understand your reasoning. Here's why: we are not hiding behind or exploiting anyone or their memories. We are fighting a war.
I'm glad we "hid behind" the lives lost at Pearl Harbor, "exploited" their memories, and kicked some German and Japanese butt. I'm glad we didn't give up after D day and some soldiers gave their lives. Actually 405,339 soldiers gave their lives in WWII.
We lost numbers similar to or greather than 9/11 or Iraq in single battles: Pearl Harbor: 2,403, Iwo Jima: nearly 7,000, D-Day: approximately 2500. The battle for Okinowa cost over 12,000 allied lives. But we never even gave thought to turning tail and coming back home.
Our military intelligence was crucial in defeating the Japanese & Germans. It the same principal at work today. Intelligence & information gathering (including interrogation) saves US Soldiers' lives.
We are not hiding behind, using, or exploiting anyone, we are trying to save American lives.
But then what do you care? You live in Japan...
Those of us who live in the US think about terrorists everytime we get on a plane or go to an NFL game. Actually, that's not true, I think of it everyday. When's the last time a jihadist was seen in Tokyo? Are they trying to sneak into Japan by looking & acting like Mexicans (with some coaching from Hugo Chavez)?
This is my country. My family has fought for the freedom we have, just like crankyright and classfied logic. I value the life that I have here and I want my children and grandchildren to grow up to have the same liberties. I fear that may not be the case though. In part that is because of too many Americans being critical of everything that we do and basically hating everything that this great nation stands for, Bad mouthing us from foreign soil is another nice tactic.
I say, get the info from the terrorists, and start prosecuting more people for treason for aiding and abetting the enemy. That's what you do when you are a messanger girl for your shiek client, or when you leak confidential information. I say we get tough at home as well.
Am I way off base here? Any thoughts, Diego, Maverick, CR, CL?
I agree with you Angel completely, I do not see why or how these people want to be diplomatic with these terrorists. You cannot be, plain and simple. If we leave them alone, they will not leave us alone. They will continuously keep coming back until 1 of 2 things happen.
1. Terrorists take over America with the help of Democrats (meaning Democrats will do nothing to stop Terrorists)
2. We keep doing what we're doing and kick their asses to the point they will stop messing with us. It will eventually work.
One of these things will have to happen and if # 1 occurs we as Americans, will go back to living life in a 3rd World country. Remember, it wasn't that long ago the U.S. was not considered a World Power.
Angel,
There are more ways than just military force to address 9/11...and the more ways the better.
Without addressing underlying causes of terrorism, the U.S. will be fighting the so-called "war on terror" indefintely. And losing any lives - American soldiers or Iraqi civilians - is not what I want to see for years to come.
Poverty, income inequality and the U.S. support for corrupt and authoritarian regimes should be addressed - along with military force - to win this war. Military force alone will not do it.
As for the claim that you "think about it everyday..." Why do you think that is? It couldn't be the culture of fear perpetuated by the U.S. media and politicians, could it?
And as for Diego's typical conservative argument of a false dichotomy...there are never just one of two solutions, answers, alternatives or reasons. To assume so is to close your mind to any other possibilities.
So yes, claiming that the torture bill was "in memory" of the victims of Sept. 11 is exploitation. Honor the victims instead by honoring life - all human life - instead of cheering as we take it.
Wil,
What are the other ways to address 9/11?? Let me guess, you are one of the freaking kooks who think WE can be diplomatic to the terrorists. Leave them alone, they'll leave us alone. You'd have better luck asking them for a cup of tea. You cannot be diplomatic with people who want to see the death, the annihilation of all Americans. Yet the Democratic Party thinks they can be diplomatic to the most barbaric savages and get them to change their ways.
I think about terrorism in certain situations simply because it is scary to think that Democrats could possibly have control after the November Elections. Think back to what Clinton did regarding al-Qaeda attacks, you remember '93, '96, '98, '00 right? All he did was bomb an aspirin factory in the middle of the night, doing so took away attention of him wagging that finger & the Monica Lewinsky SCANDAL.
As for the solutions, either we stop terrorism or terrorism stops us, no if's, and's, or but's about it.
I feel like we are honoring the victims of 9/11, how about you honor them by rooting for our side you freaking Liberal Moron.
Terrorism exists because the terrorists hate us. Not because of wealth envy. Not because we spend more on aid than the rest of the world. They hate us because we exist. Their Qur’an tells them to hate us, and as infidels we must die. They hate the freedom that exists here (you know, the very same freedom that the likes of you, Michael Moore, & Cindy Sheehan enjoy in bashing Bush) and the fact that we feel all human beings deserve the same freedom. We do not live under Sharia law and therefore must die.
So, are you saying that we must kill all of the Muslims in order to address and solve the problem of terrorism?
Contrary to the Dem opinion, Republicans do not celebrate the death of anyone. I personally would prefer that there never be another war. However, as long as evil people are out there trying to kill us, it is inevitable. It seems that the libs are the ones who cheer at the loss of life—as long as its one of ours (you know, after all we deserve it because we are a rich, free, successful country). IED goes off, that’s great because it was ‘only’ a uniformed US soldier. It’s not like it was a terrorist in plain clothes or a Hezbo with a Katyusha rocket in a residential neighborhood.
When people have a deep seated hate for you that defies logic, negotiation is not an option.
